Cross-border sports motorcycle experience Ducati SuperSport
[car home Motorcycle] The motorcycle I’m talking to you today is Ducati SuperSport, which is called "Kun Speed" in Chinese. Although this car has been listed in the domestic market for some time, it is rare to have a close contact, and I still hope to share it with you. This is the car led by me. After he sold the Ducati streetcar Monster821, he decided to choose the same brand motorcycle again. When he lent it to me, the mileage was only over 100 kilometers, which directly made me very nervous during the whole shooting process. You know, if Ducati fell, it might cost tens of thousands of dollars in maintenance … Fortunately, I didn’t lose my job. Now let’s get to know this motorcycle formally.
● Historical review
At present, Ducati’s domestic market models include street cars, adventure cars, sports cars and even cruise cars. However, I found that many Ducati models have one common feature, that is, they have strong cross-border genes, such as Scrambler, which includes the characteristics of off-road vehicles in the definition of street cars, or Diavel, which is a cruise motorcycle with great sports performance. Then SuperSport, the protagonist of this article, has some station wagon designs on the basis of sports cars. However, in my opinion, all motorcycles in Ducati put performance first, and others are just auxiliary.
Ducati SuperSport, that is, super sports series, as early as 1972, Ducati used a "Super Sport" car with a displacement of 750cc to win the Imola 200 motorcycle race in Europe. Subsequently, Ducati manufactured the first original model of SuperSport according to the racing car. In 1974, Ducati officially mass-produced this motorcycle, and the abrupt cowl at the front of the motorcycle became the biggest feature of the whole car. In addition, because the car used a lot of racing technology, it became a legal racing car after listing.
Naturally, such a motorcycle can’t be produced for a long time. In the second year, Ducati introduced a modified model. The new car was divided into two types: 860cc and 900cc. Interestingly, the Italians continued to use the right foot gear shifting system in that year. Even under the premise of violating international practice, a few models entered the American market, but the situation didn’t last long. Ducati quickly redesigned the gear shifting mechanism and replaced it with quieter exhaust and other adjustments to adapt to the market.
Next, Ducati constantly adjusted the configuration of SuperSport vehicles, such as modifying mechanical parts, improving vehicle durability, and designing double seats to increase practicality. In 1978, this car was rated as the best super sports motorcycle. What’s more, Ducati won the TT Grand Prix in Manx with the SuperSport 900.
The above can be regarded as the first generation of Ducati SuperSport. In 1988, a replacement model came out. The power system of the new car was based on the 900cc air-cooled 90-angle V-type twin-cylinder engine of Ducati Pantah. The redesigned vehicle appearance was replaced with an integrated body fairing, which was full of sports style. Later, in order to adapt to Japanese and Italian market regulations, Ducati successively introduced 350cc and 400cc SuperSport models with small displacement and 600cc displacement.
In 1991, SuperSport was redesigned again, the rear rocker arm was optimized, the braking performance was improved, and the shape of the body fairing and fuel tank became more linear, so it was successful again and was popular in the motorcycle market. That’s not all. In the next seven years, Ducati continued to improve this model, including the SuperSport with carbon fiber clutch cover, fender, exhaust and adjustable suspension and aluminum rear rocker arm, which was specially provided for the North American market.
With the introduction of other new models in Ducati, the sales of SuperSport began to decline. In 1999, the model was greatly redesigned, and the appearance of the vehicle was redesigned, with a new fuel injection system. The power part has 750cc displacement and 900cc displacement, and the body fairing also has two styles: full package and semi-package.
In 2003, Ducati updated the SuperSport power system again, retaining the 750cc displacement engine, and replacing the previous 900cc displacement with the additional 800cc and 1000cc engines. The 800cc displacement model became the most popular SuperSport in the American market at that time, and it became the main competitor with Suzuki SV650 sports station wagon. In the following years, Ducati SuperSport 800 became the main model in this car series, and production stopped in 2007.
At the 2016 Cologne International Motorcycle Exhibition, Ducati announced that it will soon launch a brand-new SuperSport model, which will be equipped with the 937cc twin-cylinder engine of its Hypermotard model with the gene of scooter. The vehicle is defined as a sports car with two configurations. The car has redesigned its frame and added many advanced configurations. It is the protagonist of this article, the latest SuperSport motorcycle in Ducati.
● Appearance introduction
At present, this SuperSport inherits the biggest feature of Ducati, that is, "fighting". When I first see it, most people will think that it is a sports car motorcycle. However, if we look carefully from the side, the steel tube woven frame and raised handlebar used in the body are quite different from the real sports car. If the angular fairing at the front is removed, it will be more like a street car. The short and upturned rear end has brought the vehicle style back to the ranks of sports cars.
The headlight group is very sharp in shape, and its style design surpasses other mainstream motorcycles, but the far and near light sources use relatively cheap halogen lamps. The height of the front windshield of the sports car can also be adjusted, which is quite surprising. The shape of the fuel tank and the design of the release handle reflect the full sports atmosphere of the vehicle.
● Appearance introduction
The SuperSport S version comes standard with the rear seat cover, which can be taken away, but this thing is like a beauty filter, and once it is turned on, it is difficult to give up. There is a simple vehicle-mounted tool under the seat, and there is also a 5V USB charging port. As for the use, the mobile phone can only be put together with the tool kit. Note that the instruction manual emphasizes that it cannot be used when it rains.
● Vehicle configuration
The vehicle configuration is very high, and three driving modes can be adjusted in the electronic instrument, including driving computer, lap time and other functions. The front brake independent oil tank, the direct-push cylinder and the adjustable suspension may all be the favorite modified parts of other car owners, but this car comes standard with these performance components.
● Vehicle configuration
This car is a Ducati SuperSport S version (there is also a regular version with a price of 139,000 yuan). Speaking of configuration, it is really worthy of the price of 155,000 yuan (as a high-end brand motorcycle, this price is not expensive). What kind of Brembo brakes, Ohlins shock absorbers, and three driving modes are nothing. The most important thing is that the S version is equipped with Ducati DQS quick shifting mechanism, which will make you.
● Power part
In terms of power, Ducati SuperSport is equipped with a two-cylinder water-cooled engine with a displacement of 937cc, with a maximum power of 110 HP at 9000 rpm and a peak torque of 93 Nm at 6500 rpm. With a vehicle weight of only 183kg, it is conceivable how powerful the vehicle’s push-to-weight ratio will be. In large-displacement motorcycles, the exhaust sound is always the most attractive part, but the original exhaust sound of Ducati SuperSport is a bit flattering, but I’m sure many owners will modify the officially recognized expensive Scorpio exhaust.
● Driving experience
As far as driving experience is concerned, friends who know a little about it know that Ducati motorcycles are famous for their large vibration and explosive power, but the adjustment of this motorcycle’s power is different. First of all, even if the vehicle is in URBAN mode (the horsepower output is limited), the acceleration is still very fast. Due to various conditions, I can’t test the actual acceleration time. In short, it is not comparable to 300,000 to 400,000 sports cars.
When switching to SPORT mode (outputting the maximum horsepower of the engine), I’m sorry that I only had two words "XX" in my mind at that time, which was just like a split personality. That kind of pulling feeling would narrow your sight, which was exactly the same as the effect of racing games. At the same time, fear and excitement appeared in my mind together. This kind of power output is definitely more fierce than people. Unless the master is on the track, it is time to slow down even before the third gear is engaged. As for the TOURING mode (travel) in the middle position, the dynamic response is selected from the first two modes.
However, in such a violent Ducati, no matter which driving mode you choose, the vehicles are smooth at low speed, and the most important thing is that there is no stall phenomenon, which, like its powerful acceleration ability, gives me a great and unexpected feeling. Perhaps, this is the reason why it conforms to the positioning of traveling sports motorcycles, and it can show a gentle side while ensuring the brand gene. In addition, the unpleasant exhaust sound mentioned above has an excellent side when riding. When the vehicle slows down and downshifts, the backfire sound of exhaust will pass through the helmet and remind you of your excitement at any time.
Regarding the driving posture, it is said that this is a street car sitting posture, and the body can maintain a relatively upright driving posture, but this is only for a real sports car, and this is a Ducati, which has been very worthy of every consumer without letting the driver ride on the fuel tank all the time. After all, the prototype used to be a veritable racing car, and the Ducati brand itself is famous for its "super sports", so, In terms of driving experience, the current SuperSport is only relatively less combative. If you used to ride a streetcar like Japanese or BMW, then changing it will make you feel that this is a very combative motorcycle.
I have been riding this Ducati SuperSport for about 300 kilometers continuously. Besides the acceleration and driving attitude, the feedback from the vehicle control is that it is relatively sensitive, the center of gravity is low, the vehicle runs stably in corners, and the rear rocker arm responds positively, which gives the driver sufficient confidence. If it is a master, it is easy to grind the knees and turn corners. Finally, it is hard for me to accept that the huge heat emitted by the engine is baking my thighs. In fact, this should be the case for Ducati.

Conclusion:
For such a motorcycle, there is no need to care about its fuel consumption or maintenance, and fully enjoying the driving pleasure brought by the vehicle is the most important core. It must be said that the current SuperSport is a very successful model in Ducati. Its gorgeous appearance, freewheeling power, steady body and its cross-border style genes can make you fully understand the charm of Ducati motorcycles. (Photo/Text car home Zhu Xuyu)
