A few days ago, the latest population data released by Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Statistics showed that by the end of 2021, the total resident population of Hangzhou had reached 12.204 million, and the urbanization rate was 83.6%, ranking among the megacities, with an average annual increase of more than 200,000 for several consecutive years.

Since 2019, Hangzhou has been among the best in the country for three consecutive years, and its strength is eye-catching. It is predicted that the resident population in Hangzhou will exceed 15 million in 2035.

Population size is an important embodiment of a city’s comprehensive strength. The resident population of Hangzhou has exceeded 10 million, which fully shows that the urban energy level of Hangzhou is rapidly rising.

Hangzhou ranks first in the country in talent attraction.

According to big data, the supply and demand of talents in Hangzhou, Chengdu and Suzhou rank in the top three, and the supply and demand are booming.

Judging from the distribution of new jobs in 15 new first-tier cities in the past year, Hangzhou has the highest proportion, accounting for 17.21%. From the ranking of the proportion of new first-tier cities where high-end talents are delivered, Hangzhou once again takes the lead. The top five cities are Hangzhou, Chengdu, Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuhan, accounting for 13.02%, 10.83%, 9.41%, 8.31% and 8.02% respectively.

Judging from the average annual salary of middle and high-end talents in the new line, the highest is Hangzhou, which is 188,800 yuan. The second and third places are Nanjing and Suzhou, with 173,400 yuan and 171,000 yuan.

Why do middle and high-end talents prefer Hangzhou?

In recent years, the policy of recruiting talents and attracting talents issued by Hangzhou is very intensive, and the scope of seeking talents has expanded to the whole world, and the threshold for settlement has been lowered again and again, and the support for young talents’ entrepreneurship and employment has been continuously strengthened. Among these policies, people in the workplace said that they were most attracted by the policy of settling down, and the proportion of talents who chose this item ranked first, accounting for 49.26%; Entrepreneurship and employment support policies accounted for the second place, accounting for 28.52%; Subsidy policies such as buying a house and buying a car accounted for the third place, accounting for 22.22%.

Undeniably, the current registered permanent residence is linked to many real life needs and welfare items, such as house purchase, children’s education and medical care. The registered permanent residence is also an important identity symbol for people in the workplace, giving them more sense of belonging and security. Compared with the strict settlement system in first-tier cities, Hangzhou’s settlement policy is relatively loose. Since the "urban grabbing war", the registered population of Hangzhou has surged, and it has been promoted to the blue-chip stocks in the new first-tier cities.

It is foreseeable that with the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou in 2022, Hangzhou’s city brand and talent attraction will be further enhanced.

Hangzhou’s urban agglomeration effect continues to increase.

In the Outline of the Yangtze River Delta Regional Integration Development Plan released in 2019, it is clear that Hangzhou is a megacity, and population is the key factor to determine the size of the city. It can be predicted that with the convening of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, the urban agglomeration effect in Hangzhou will be further enhanced.

The resident population is 10 million, which is regarded as a key symbol in urban development. After the breakthrough of the resident population of 10 million, the agglomeration effect of Hangzhou has increased instead of falling. According to Shen Minyue, general manager of Hangzhou Mingju Headhunting Co., Ltd., the first-class business environment is very important.

"The inflow of high-end talents in Hangzhou is not only large in quantity, but also high in quality. There are many other industrial and technical talents recognized by the state, and they are concentrated in the fields of new manufacturing and digital economy, which optimizes the talent structure in Hangzhou and promotes the economic development of Hangzhou. It has formed a good ecology with the business environment." Shen Minyue said. (Excerpted by Jia Xiaoyun, editor of this site)
